These two words mean the same thing, but the two words may not always mean the exact same thing.
“G” stands for Georgia State and “S”, which stands for State Sports.
Both words are also used in the state motto, “Georgia, Stand Strong”.
In the state flag, a “s” stands in for “State” and “Sports”.
Georgia Tech’s mascot is the Georgia Southerner, which is not actually the real thing.
The actual mascot of Georgia Tech is not a Souther, but rather an American Indian from the Lower Mississippi River tribe.
Georgia Tech plays its football in a renovated football stadium, the GSU Football Complex, that opened in 2019.
It’s named for Georgia Tech basketball coach Joe Ewing, who played for the university.
Ewing left the program in January 2020 to coach the American Athletic Conference.
“The Southerners have been playing in the American Conference for 40 years, but they still need an owner who understands the values of the Southerians,” said Georgia Tech President and CEO Greg McGarity.
“I’ve got a great deal of respect for Joe, and I’ve seen him grow into one of the nation’s premier coaches.
But we’re in a unique time at Georgia Southern.
Our students and alumni deserve a quality football program that provides them the best opportunity to reach their fullest potential and compete for a championship.”
Georgia Tech will be the first public university in Georgia to hold a football game in the Southeastern Conference in 2019, and will play two regular season games in the league that is located in Tallahassee, Florida.
In the 2019 season, Georgia Tech played nine regular season home games, two road games and one intercollegiate game in its inaugural season.
Georgia will play seven games in its first-ever conference schedule, including the SEC East and the SEC West, and play two more games in conference play.
Georgia State will play in the NCAA Tournament for the first time in 20 years, with the Bulldogs winning the league title in 2018.
Georgia’s first win in the SEC was a 23-17 victory over Georgia Southern in the 2018 Southeastern Regional at Atlanta’s Philips Arena.
Georgia also played a home game in 2019 in the Southland Conference tournament, and then a home and away conference game in 2021.
“We’re excited to bring a college football program to Atlanta, and to share a new experience in a city we call home,” said McGarity in a press release.
“Georgia Tech will always be a place of pride, but we are confident we can achieve even greater success in Atlanta and the South.”
Georgia’s 2018 schedule will feature six regular season contests at the Georgia Dome, and two home games.
Georgia won its first SEC title in 2019 with a 22-17 win over South Carolina, and Georgia State won the SEC regular season title in 2020.
The Bulldogs have played in all 18 games in 2019 and 20 of them have been home games (three of those wins have come on the road).
Georgia is also the only SEC team to play three nonconference games in 2018 (two of those games were on the weekend).
The Bulldogs are expected to be ranked in the top 10 for the 2017 season, which means Georgia Tech could be playing its first full slate of games since 2020.
A second home game is slated for 2022, but McGarity said the school is still looking at options for that season.
“While we’re focused on 2019, we will also be looking to see what our 2019 schedule looks like and whether we could make some changes or add some games to the schedule to ensure we have the best possible schedule for our student-athletes and fans,” McGarity wrote. Georgia is
