The story of the week: UTEP football fans have been making a conscious decision to pack up their seats for a game that is about to begin.
But, the game will be played at NRG Stadium, home of the New York Giants.
“I have to go,” one fan told Yahoo Fantasy Football.
“It’s a great football game, but this will make me regret my decision to go.”
In a statement released Tuesday, the university said fans would be allowed to leave the stadium on Saturday and return to the game Sunday, but only after being told their seats would be moved to an away section for the game.
The university added that all remaining tickets would be honored, including those for the home game against Georgia Southern on Saturday.
“We are aware that this is a complicated issue for our fans, and that the UTEP family and staff will need to weigh their options moving forward,” the statement read.
The team is hoping to play a home game at NRF Stadium next season, which would allow the game to continue at NRU Stadium, the home of Penn State.
The stadium, located in Frisco, Texas, is owned by the university, but it was purchased by NRG after the Aggies won the national championship.
